How long do I need my Wedding Photographer?

Perhaps one of the most asked questions, yet one of the most avoided issues when it comes to wedding photography…  I’m sure the average “bride-to-be” will visit countless websites before she lands smack dab on my fact (and opinion filled) blog-o-rama, but let’s hope she finds at least a few answers to her many questions on the perplexing subject of photography.  Now, my short (yet seemingly long) answer to the question of how long she will actually need a photographer hanging around on her wedding day. It all hinges on the size her wedding party and the size of the families involved.  Simply put, the larger the wedding party and families, the longer you’ll need a photographer!  With that said; reality steps in with the overwhelming number of weddings that simply do not have 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen…  So, I dare ask, will you really need a photographer for a full day of service when you only have three or four bridesmaids?  Or, if you do need a photographer for a full day, how much of that time will actually be spent taking pictures?  You may be surprized at how few images are actually taken during some photographer’s “unlimited” service…

One may also consider the length of the ceremony itself. If you are Catholic and planning to give communion during your ceremony (as is almost always the case), you will most likely to need a full day of photography service!

All I’m suggesting here is some careful planning of your wedding day that avoids your paying for a full day of service if you really don’t need a full day of service.  Consult with your photographer about your wedding plans.  Discuss the size of your wedding party, the family members to be photographed, the ceremony itself and anything else of importance to you that you would like to have photographed!  Make certain your photographer understands exactly what you want and is willing to HELP YOU customize a service that will work for your individual needs.
