Ok, so I’m a bit behind in blogging among other things (pray for me) but as I’m sit here trying to get catch up I just couldn’t let this one go unblogged about! I’ve been photographing our city’s beauty queen for the past few years now and every year I think I enjoy it a little more than the one before! Miss Dothan 2007, Ashley Davis is so sweet. She brought me a box of fresh baked cookies and we had so much fun photographing her in all the beautiful gowns she brought including her official evening gown from the pageant that was designed by Mrs Andrews at Andrew’s Bridal Shop! It was an amazing gown and she was so lovely in it! I can hardly wait to get one of these on my wall. Thanks Ashley and the City of Dothan for allowing us to create these amazing imaging for you! -Cindi K

Just a quick note to let everyone know that my Dad is doing well after his medical procedure last week. He’s been through a rough patch lately, but he’s a pretty tough guy. I headed over to Georgia to check on him and my Mom and after a rather exausting week they are both doing fine and resting from all the excitement… I send them both GREAT BIG HUGS from Alabama and hopes for a brighter tomorrow!!!

Maryanna’s special day…

I’ll never forget when I received my first email from Maryanna. She told me how very impressed she was with my work and how she thought of me as an artist… Now, this isn’t the first time I’ve heard this, but it was the first time I’d heard this from someone was was studying to get their Master’s Degree in Art! I was all choked up when I read her email to my adoring husband who I knew without a doubt would share in my joy that this young lady want US to document her wedding!!!

So we headed off to North Alabama earlier this month where we documented one very artistic wedding. Maryanna and Cullen were such a wonderful couple to work with and because I don’t have as much time to blog as I once did I’m going to do something that I’ve NEVER done before and that’s showcase their wedding in multiple posts! We’ll start off with a few wonderful images of Maryanna before the ceremony…

Maryanna, I sincerely hope you enjoy what I post over the next few days as we had such a wonderful time working with you and your families! We should have your gallery released shortly so you can see all of your amazing images! HERE’s to Creating ART…

I had a long, yet exciting day as I just finished the initial processing on the images from today’s ‘URBAN’ family portrait session. Dr. Larry Katz and his family will have soooo many wonderful images to choose from as we went to many places in our beautiful city taking images of their beautiful family! One of the coolest things about being a photographic artist is when you get to capture those extra special moments between a parent and a child. We seem to naturally find mother and daughter shots, but what about father and daughter shots? Well, I happened upon a wonderful moment between Dr. Katz and one of his daughters this afternoon. This isn’t the first time I’ve photographed the Katz family as they are certainly one of our MOST VALUED clients and I’m sure this won’t be our last session. Perhaps next time I’ll catch him in a moment with his other daughter!!! Until then we know he and his wife both will enjoy these wonderful images! Just remember, you saw it here first Dothan…

By the way, this is merely a ‘sneak peak’, if you want to see the entire Katz family you’ll have to wait until a future blog as I’ve got a bit more artistic work to do on their images! KEEP SMILIN’ -Cindi K

the BEST is YET to COME…

I’ve been in this business for 21 years now and I’m celebrating this month big time! But, before I post my next set of images I want to say a little something about MY STYLE. I’ve been doing a great deal of reflecting in the past few weeks and after sitting and going through a few boxes of old film strips I had a GREAT REVELATION and it was that overall my style really hasn’t changed that much over the years. My weddings have always been journalistic, artistic and about capturing ‘the moment’ and my portraits have always been about capturing the personality as much as the beauty of the surroundings… I WAS ABSOLUTELY THRILLED AT THE MOMENT I HAD THIS REVELATION because I found 17 year old images of the backs of bridal gowns with Mom’s helping hands just inside the frame and some super fun shots of bride and grooms being playful together when they thought no one was watching. I also found family portraits of entire families walking hand in hand! I knew at that moment that what I had been doing hadn’t been about any TREND or trying to be like the guy down the road, it was about being true to myself as an artist and shooting what I truly SAW through the lens…

They tell me I have an artistic eye and an artistic vision. I use to think it was just my family and friends just trying to make me feel better about my quirkiness, but after receiving kudos from some of the best photographers in the world I’m starting to believe it myself. Ok, so I’m a bit slow… I guess it just can’t be put on my headstone that I was ‘FULL OF MYSELF’. Anyways, I recently had another really cool artistic idea! Thing is, I want to WELL ESTABLISH THIS ONE AS MINE because I know when I post the images everyone is going to go BANANAS FOR THEM!!! Ok, so I’m probably not the first to do this, but I will be the first to do it here in DOTHAN ALABAMA or at least the first to do it LOUD AND PROUD on the WEB and on MY WALLS and in MY ADVERTISING!!! So, let me just say that if you see it anywhere else around here in the next few days, weeks or months (whether exact or a derived version), you’ll know most likely where they got the idea…

So, I’m taking my idea to the streets… LITERALLY… We’re going URBAN BABY… LITERALLY… From just the kids to all out FAMILY PORTRAITS. I’m taking OWNERSHIP of this idea (whether it’s ever been done before or not) and developing it to maturity. I’ve already got some AMAZING images to share and I’m shooting our first SPOKESFAMILY in the morning! You’re about to see why I said the BEST IS YET TO COME!!!

Our seniors don’t just come from our immediate area. This one came from just across the Georgia State line and we’re so glad he did! My 17 year old daughter was at the studio when these were taken and I think he enjoyed her presense because when she told him to put on his grrrrrr face he went slap silly on us! Our main goal with any senior is to capture their true personality and once Ryan relaxed (with my daughter’s help of course) he really got into his session and I must say nothing short of magic happened in our studio. I LOVE WORKING WITH YOUNG PEOPLE. They are just like sponges in that no matter how far OUT OF THE BOX I may be thinking artistically they always LOVE my ideas!!!

WE LOVE THE STUDIO WHEN IT’S 100 degrees OUTSIDE!!!
